DRUCKER SCHOOL ADDS DRUCKER CHAIR IN MANAGEMENT

Bernie Jaworski, the Drucker School’s new Peter F. Drucker Chair in Management and the Liberal Arts

The Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University (CGU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Bernard Jaworski as the Peter F. Drucker Chair in Management and the Liberal Arts.

Jaworski, an experienced professor and an expert in marketing and executive education, will begin his teaching duties on July 1.

The Drucker Chair is named in honor of Peter Drucker, the founder of modern management and the namesake of the Drucker School. (The Drucker Institute, also part of CGU, is an affiliate of the School.) The professorship is awarded to an internationally recognized scholar who carries on the Drucker legacy of tempering sound business practices with a commitment to social responsibility.

“Bernie will bring to the Drucker School the best of two worlds: excellence in academic research and teaching, and experience in business consulting and corporate executive education,” said Hideki Yamawaki, the Drucker School’s academic dean. “He further strengthens what is already a world-class faculty and he will be a tremendous resource for our students.”

Jaworski comes to CGU from the Switzerland-based IMD, a highly regarded international business school. As the school’s executive vice president for North America, he both taught courses and helped to expand the school’s reach into the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Prior to working at IMD, Jaworski spent a decade as a senior partner of the Monitor Group, a global management consulting firm. During his Monitor career, he co-founded and co-led two of the global practice areas – the e-commerce practice and the executive education unit. Among other activities, he was a senior team member of a number of significant, multi-year corporate transformations.

From 1996 to 1999, Jaworski served as the Jeanne and David Tappan Marketing Fellow and a tenured full professor of marketing at the University of Southern California, where he ranked as one of the top five marketing scholars based on number of publications and citations. He has also served on the faculty at the University of Arizona and as a visiting professor at Harvard Business School, as well as on the review boards of the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Research. He is the co-author four textbooks on e-commerce and has taught topics including leadership, corporate strategy, and service management.

Jaworski said he is humbled and excited to join the Drucker School. The school’s intimate setting allows it to offer students a level of personal attention and engagement that larger schools cannot.

“I look forward to carrying on the spirit of Peter Drucker,” he said. “I want to help our students challenge the fundamental assumptions about how to both compete successfully and best serve society in the 21st century. At the Drucker School, I believe we can really make an impact on how people think about the world.”

The Drucker Chair is funded through a $5 million endowment from the Edward D Jones and Company Foundation. John Bachmann, senior partner for Edward Jones, is a CGU Trustee, a member of the Drucker Institute Board of Advisors and the first Distinguished Drucker Practitioner in Residence.
